Benibachi UK

Hello All,
My name is Dane and i am the person running the Benibachi store in the UK. We have been pointed to this forum by a German customer who told us about a heated discussion regarding the Prices and quality of Benibachi shrimp. The forum thread in question is now closed so i hope that is ok to open a new one?
We have imported Benibachi shrimp to Europe for the past 2 years and prices during this time have always remained the same. Each year we receive a new stock and price list and this year there was a drop in prices with Benibachi shrimp, mainly the higher grade shrimp. This has no bearing on the quality of the shrimp, the shrimp still remain top quality. The price drop also coincides with a price reduction with the shipping agent we use, due to us meeting shipping targets we were also given a significant reduction in shipping charges. We could have been greedy and kept prices the same but we have passed on any savings we have made.
We have spoken to "Mr Benibachi" on many occasions over the years regarding their grading system. This year the grading system has been changed to what is more recognisable here in Europe. The 3 grades: Band, SS and SSS each now have a sub grade of Low, Medium and High, referring to colour intensity. The high grade SSS shrimp have not dropped in price to £70, this would be madness! Our website by default displays the lowest price, the lower grade shrimp. When you click on the shrimp grade you want you are then given the option of Low, Medium and High. We have explained it in the same way here on our website: edit by chrisp: Sorry but we don't allowed to post links to shops - in this relationship your Nick is also not allowed. Please change it. Thanks
I also read the discussion about the quality of Benibachi high grade shrimp and the theory that photographs make them look better, this made me laugh. We have imported thousands of Benibachi shrimp and see first hand the quality of these shrimp, as have many of our customers. In the two years of importing Benibachi shrimp we have not had one single customers complain about the shrimp they received, many customers have even come back for more.
I hope this has explained a few things about the new pricing and grading system, hopefully it will end the heated discussions
